| More About the Friends More About the Park
| <*dv_2*>Join Us! President: Lynn Messinger
We are a group of volunteers working together to benefit Blue Mound State Park by enhancing and preserving it's natural resources while offering activities and projects that improve the park guests' visit. Members have the opportunity to share skills and talents with others while enjoying the group as their schedules permit.
Throughout the years, the Friends of Blue Mound State Park have made significant and generous contributions to the park. Some examples of the group's involvement include:
See Friends Calendar of Events for meeting times.
New Shelter for the Park Another shelter would be a great addition to the park. There is currently one open shelter with electricity on the east side of the picnic area. This shelter is usually rented out every weekend in the summer, leaving no place else for other picnickers to avoid the sun or rain. There is also somewhat of a demand for another shelter in order to rent. The recent ideas for the new shelter would include electricity, a fireplace (either indoors or outdoors), and it would be at least partially enclosed. Being enclosed would give greater protection from the elements, even into the fall or possibly winter. It would also provide an excellent space for interpretive programs. <*dv_3*>Right now, we are in the planning stages and welcome all comments. This is an attainable goal, but we still need all the help we can get. We are looking for major donors, volunteers to help spread the word and more people to join the Friends group. Friends of Blue Mound State Park is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax-deductible. Contact us using the information found here.
